DESCRIPTION

In Creatures of Possibility preeminent scholar and theologian Ingolf Dalferth offers mature reflections on what it means to be human. Human beings, insists Dalferth, should not be defined by their deficiencies—as though compensating for some weakness—but as creatures with extraordinary possibilities of growth.

By exploring the sheer gratuitousness of God's agency in justifying and sanctifying the human person, Dalferth argues that human identity and significance comes not by what we do or achieve but by God's creative and saving action. Through a series of expositions of Luther, Marion, Derrida, Blumenberg, and Nietzsche, the author demonstrates how the gospel truly sets us free to interact with the world and creation.

Creatures of Possibility is essential reading for anyone concerned with theological anthropology, offering a brilliant and provocative study of a topic at the forefront of contemporary thought.
