DESCRIPTION
"In an age of open-mindedness, many believers accept too much with too little discernment, resulting in great confusion and compromise. But God's Word makes it clear that not everything that glitters is gold. False teaching is at every turn, and the temptation to embrace them is great." (from the back of the book)
We have this propensity to evaluate the goodness of a Christian trend or movement by either the numbers, popularity, endorsements, human personalities or general consensus of the Christian lay public. But all that is not adequate. In fact, it is sorely inadequate.
Many a time we overlook the one thing that is needful, and that is Scripture. That was what the Reformers risked their lives for...the rallying cry of Sola Scriptura.
General editor John MacArthur of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California and the contributors of this book help to define for you some of the key principles of biblical discernment and use them to address certain contemporary Christian issues. In a balanced, straightforward yet gracious style, these critiques do not offer mere human opinion - but measure them up against the standard of God's Word.
From soppy "inspirational" preaching which echoes the likes of secular motivational speaking, the tricky political arena as well as the consumerism approach to Christianity to the wide influence of certain popular Christian books; the contributors provide Scriptural canon against the deceptive effects of errant teaching.
May this new book from one of America's most trusted Bible teachers and pastors instruct you to discern truth and falsehood in a world that has already gone theologically and philosophically awry.
