DESCRIPTION

The Christian Apocrypha burst into the public consciousness in 2003, following the publication of Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code. Interest in the wide assortment of texts that are not included in the Bible – other gospels, acts of various apostles, letters and apocalypses – has remained strong ever since. Although much has been written and said on the subject, misunderstandings and hysteria abound.

Secret Scriptures Revealed explodes the many myths and misconceptions about the Christian Apocrypha and answers, in clear, accessible terms, many common questions, such as:

• Where did the texts come from?
• Who wrote them?
• Why were they not included in the Bible?
• Is reading these texts harmful to personal faith?

The book describes and explains numerous fascinating apocryphal stories, including many that are not well known. It also looks at the massive influence that apocryphal literature has had on Christian art, literature and popular culture. Instead of dismissing or smearing the Christian Apocrypha, Secret Scriptures Revealed recognizes that these texts are fascinating and have much to offer in terms of understanding early Christian communities and the canonical Bible.
