DESCRIPTION

English literature is filled with references, allusions, and the obvious symbolism of the Bible and Christian tradition; yet today, scholars, never mind students, rarely learn the rich source of these analogies and references.

Written by a series of experts in both literature and Christianity, Christian Tradition in English Literature features a wide range of essays, articles, glossaries and class questions on the authors and religious issues that have occurred from the Medieval Times until today.

Focusing on a particular author, work, or background issue, each chapter illuminates another portion of the Biblically-inspired literature of England in easily accessible, yet scholary, approach. The last portion of the book also includes chapters on the Christian tradition itself, including theology, history, hymnology and various other aspects of Western Christianity.
