DESCRIPTION

The Parables is a clearly written introduction to the parables and parabolic sayings of Jesus. After introducing the various forms of parables found in the Synoptic Gospels and the principles of interpretation, Simon Kistemaker examines the parables individually with a scholar's mind and a pastor's heart.

The entire text of each parable is included, followed by the author's commentary. Kistemaker gives careful attention to the historical and cultural setting of each story, offering practical insight into Jesus' words and their implications for the Christian life. Originally published in 1980 as The Parables of Jesus, this revised edition contains updated research and is now more accessible to students.
