John 3:16 (NIV)
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but
have eternal life. (John 3:16)
For God… The Supreme Being, creator of heaven and earth. (Genesis 1)
…so loved… God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him . (1 John 4:8-9)
…the world… Including you and me.
…that he gave… Because He knew our need.
…his one and only Son… Jesus, God’s most prized possession.
…that whoever… Absolutely anyone. Yes, even you.
…believes in him… Believe Jesus’ claim that He died to pay for your sins and rose again to give you new life.
…shall not perish… One day we are going to die…and unless our sins are forgiven, we will live in eternal death (hell), separated from God forever.
…but have eternal life. This means to live forever in heaven along with God. Believing in Jesus
takes us from one eternal position (death) to another (life).
